Police: Former Oregon football player killed in a single-car accident in Eugene

He played 38 games in three seasons with the Ducks.

A former Oregon University football player was found dead early Friday morning close to an area where his friend crashed his vehicle hours earlier. Leiato's body was found partially covered with brush on a gravel path about 7 a.m.

Though the investigation isn't over, police say the deceased person was likely a passenger in the vehicle and not a pedestrian who got hit.

It remains to be seen how long Stadler remains in police custody and whether he's able to remain in his post during his detention. A spokesperson for Volkswagen confirmed his arrest to Reuters , saying, "We confirm that Mr Stadler was arrested this morning".

Police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin says the Kia sedan driven by a 22-year-old man rolled off the road at 2:30 a.m. Friday. Officers have not released the names of the driver or passenger. Chavarin was taken to the hospital and then cited for a DUI. He was arrested in February and subsequently found trouble with the law again in April when he attempted to remove a parking boot from his vehicle. He also was booked on a misdemeanor trespassing charge in January.

"We are saddened to learn of the passing of Fotu, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time". He had seven tackles as a freshman in 2015, 16 tackles as a sophomore in 2016 and 14 tackles as a junior. He was arrested for the act which was his final strike with Oregon Football and he was dismissed from the team.
