Thomas Markle reveals regrets about royal wedding: 'I am now a footnote'

Meghan Markle's father cried when he saw her walk down the aisle, was envious of Prince Charles

Earlier Tuesday, officials said Harry and Meghan will make their first official trip overseas to Ireland next month.

What's worse is that Kensington Palace officials had no idea the interview was even in the works, until it was too late.

Royal sources told English that the Palace and couple have done everything they can to help and guide Thomas, but "he is a proud man who finds it hard to accept assistance from his daughter".

"It was incredible watching her", said "proud" Mr Markle, who said his daughter "had the sense" not to invite any family members except her mother Doria Ragland after "up to 60 Markles came out of the woodwork" asking to come to the wedding. Markle underwent a heart surgery just weeks before the wedding and cited privacy as the key reason for his absence.

It has been reported that Harry and Meghan are planning a visit to see Thomas Markle in his hometown in Mexico.

The daughter of Princess Diana's oldest sister, Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Celia McCorquodale, wore the Spencer Tiara at the time of her wedding on Saturday. Mr. Markle said that he broke the news about not attending the wedding to Harry and Meghan through a phone call.

"Meghan cried, I'm sure, and they both said "Take care of yourself".

"He said, 'Hello Thomas.' I said, 'Hi Harry.' It became a conversation back and forth, mostly about politics".

"As he said, it cost him, really, the trip to go walk his daughter down the aisle because all the stress and pressure from his own bad behavior boiled over and he couldn't get the flight".

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's youngest child, born on April 23, will be baptised at the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace in London.

He also dished on what he believes to be his daughter's desire to have children, saying, "She's wanted children for a long time, yes".

"I am delighted to hear they are coming, of course, and they will be made very welcome" he said.
