First Lady Melania Trump made a surprise visit to the US-Mexican border on Thursday, as her husband's administration seeks to quell a firestorm over migrant family separations.

Melania Trump wore a hooded green khaki jacket designed by fashion chain Zara as she boarded her flight to Texas in front of news photographers.

Bitch Media identified the coat the first lady was wearing as she climbed the stairs to her plane: "I Really Don't Care, Do U?" it reads.

When is a jacket not just a jacket?

It was not the first time Melania Trump raised eyebrows for her fashion choices when out in the field: past year she wore needle-thin high stiletto heels to observe the devastation wrought by Hurricane Harvey.

"Why did @FLOTUS wear this tone-deaf jacket boarding the plane for this trip, allegedly to show she cares about the kids in these detention facilities?!" another person questioned.

Then there's the most obvious and widespread interpretation: that it was a message to migrant families and people who support their plight.

His next public appearance is likely to be his christening, for which no public date has been announced. James's palace in London and will be conducted by Justin Welby , the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Many have praised Trump for seeming to diverge from Donald Trump's attitude on separating children from their families.

" 'I'm headed down to Texas, ' " is what Grisham said the first lady told her husband, and "he was supportive".

Social media is in disbelief. Since the Stormy Daniels stories began, Melania has been noticeably absent from her husband's side. Photos from the Upbring New Hope Children's Center suggest that the first lady is touring a newly renovated school-a far cry from recent images of children sleeping under mylar blankets, being led through tent cities and screaming for their separately detained parents.

The first lady, whose stylish clothing tends to draw more attention than her actions, seemingly made a conscious decision to wear a subtle outfit for the trip.

Melania Trump, herself an immigrant from Slovenia, first weighed into the debate on Sunday with a public statement saying she hated to see children separated from their families and calling on the U.S.to govern "with heart".

Melania Trump visited three classrooms, each time asking the children where they came from, their ages, how long they'd been at the center and their favorite subjects.

"Nice! She cares about children!" you may think, but her jacket literally says otherwise.
