U.S. Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt, who pleased President Donald Trump by rolling back environmental regulations but came under fire for travel and security expenses and a condo arrangement, has resigned, Trump said on Thursday.

For months he had ranked as a personal confidant and influential policy adviser to the president, commiserating with Trump over negative stories and indiscreet aides while praising the commander-in-chief for his intelligence and political acumen. "Truly, your confidence in me has blessed me personally and enabled me to advance your agenda beyond what anyone anticipated at the beginning of your administration", Pruitt wrote in a letter posted by Fox News.

"I think the most grievous threat that we have today is this imperialistic judiciary, this judicial monarchy that has it wrong on what the First Amendment's about and has an objective to create religious sterility in the public square, which is wholly inconsistent with the Founding Fathers' view", Pruitt warned.

Until now, Trump had stood by Pruitt - a zealous lieutenant who strongly defended his decision to quit the Paris climate accords - praising his work to roll back Obama-era environmental regulations that the president says hinder economic growth.

She then began to detail some of her issues with the EPA.

The duration of Wheeler's tenure at the EPA is uncertain.

While her grand total was four fewer than her tally a year ago , it was nine more than the closest challenger, Michelle Lesco. The only other woman to ever win the women's competition is Miki Sudo , whose personal Nathan's record is 41 hot dogs.

White House advisers promptly shot down Pruitt's proposal, it was reported. Some of the ethics accusations involved jobs for Pruitt's wife.

"I have accepted the resignation of Scott Pruitt as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency", Trump said on Twitter. He worked in the EPA under former President George H.W. Bush, spent years as a senior aide in the Senate working to defeat climate-related legislation and most recently was a lobbyist with many clients in the coal industry.

White House homeland security adviser Tom Bossert resigned in April, a month after Rex Tillerson was sacked as secretary of state. Pruitt, a former Oklahoma attorney general, is often aligned with the oil and gas industry, while Wheeler has focused more on coal since becoming a lobbyist a decade ago. Investigators on Capitol Hill had summoned current and former EPA aides for interviews, as part of the more than dozen federal inquiries into Pruitt's spending and management of the agency. "This is one of the only big blunders of his administration". "He is giving in to the loony left and is making a huge mistake". Pruitt also was instrumental a year ago in lobbying Trump to withdraw the United States from the global 2015 Paris climate accord to combat global warming.

"Scott Pruitt was as reckless toward the planet as he was toward his own position in government", Cuomo said in a statement. "Pruitt is just the latest victim".

Pruitt was at the White House with other cabinet members on Wednesday evening, celebrating the Fourth of July and watching fireworks.
