Cormier knocked out the most dominant champion in history, Stipe Miocic, to become just the second fighter to hold two belts at the same time. Shortly after the belt was wrapped around DC's waist, former Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar came in the cage and pushed Cormier hard. The first was Conor McGregor, who accomplished the feat in late 2016. Lesnar eventually got on the microphone and put Cormier on notice after taking a shot at the other UFC Heavyweights.
Lewis took the unanimous decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, but the victory will have done nothing for his world title hopes after one of the worst UFC fights in recent memory.
Severe Rain, Flooding Leave 38 Dead, Scores Missing in Japan
TV footage showed a residential area in Okayama, in south-west Japan, with brown water spreading like a huge lake. Katsura river is seen swollen due to a heavy rain in Kyoto, western Japan Friday, July 6, 2018.
"The heavyweights don't move like us", Cormier said. I'm going to take him down, try to wear on him and pressure fight him.
"In our studying, we knew Stipe would back out of the clinch a little bit with his hands low, so I worked on that", Cormier said. The story is created to make Brock look as if he is actually holding the championship hostage so that whoever ends up facing him will get a babyface reaction when going up against a heel Lesnar. "I never thought I would fight him - but Brock Lesnar, get your ass in here!" Cormier said Lesnar is stuck in the stone age. Cormier has said in the past that he plans to retire when he turns 40 next March, so it remains to be seen if he'll ever defend his light heavyweight title again. The two are scheduled to fight in a heavyweight title fight Saturday in Las Vegas.
Shortly after winning the heavyweight belt, Cormier gave a heartfelt speech in the cage, but then shifted gears and called out Lesnar.
"Push me now, [and] you're going to sleep later", Cormier yelled at Lesnar. For the fourth consecutive year, the weekend's pay-per-view card lost a major fight when featherweight champion Max Holloway was ruled out of his title defence with Brian Ortega due to symptoms of an apparent concussion. "Even if I already know what's going to happen".
