PGA and LPGA partner with Aon to offer US$1m annual prize

PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic to be played in Detroit in June

PGA Tour schedule in 2018-19 released, includes shortened FedEx Cup playoffs

The Rocket Mortgage Classic is one of two new stops on the PGA Tour for 2018-19, along with the 3M Open in Minnesota.

Global professional services firm Aon has announced a multi-year partnership with the PGA tour and LPGA to hold a unique golf competition.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill will be played the week before the Players while the WGC Match-Play Championship and a PGA event in the Dominican Republic come two weeks before the Masters, whose lead in remains the Texas Open.

As part of the agreement, the London-based company will become an official marketing partner of the PGA, as well as being named "official risk, retirement and health advisor" of the PGA Tour.

The event will be part of the FedEx Cup, and is one of several changes to the pro golf schedule in 2019.

Adam "Pacman" Jones Airport Fight Video Surfaces
Former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones was involved in a violent incident at the Atlanta airport, TMZ reports . Most recently, he pleaded guilty to obstructing police following a January 2017 altercation in downtown Cincinnati.

The BMW Championship will be the middle event for the leading 70 players in the FedExCup standings, while TPC Boston will host the Northern Trust on alternate years from 2020 after the Dell Technologies Championship removed from the schedule.

The season features 46 events, starting with the Safeway Open in October and concluding with the Tour Championship, which will end August 25, 2019, allowing the golf season to end before the start of football.

However, all is not lost for area golf fans, as The Northern Trust, the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs, will begin a rotation between Boston and New York City.

"And by concluding at the end of August, the FedEx Cup play-offs no longer have the challenge of sharing the stage with college and professional football".

The Canadian Open will move from late July to June 6-9 as a lead-in to the US Open the following week. It will be February 21-24, the same week as the World Golf Championships Mexico Championship. Key to the changes was the PGA Championship moving from August to May, and The Players Championship returning to March. FedEx has assumed title sponsorship of the event now known as the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which has been staged in Akron, Ohio, since 1999. The final WGC event of the season will be held July 22-28, 2019 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, replacing the FedEx St. Jude Classic in that city.
