The future king is likely to spend the weekend celebrating his big day with his parents and siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The photograph was taken after George's baby brother Prince Louis' christening earlier this month, and sees the third in line to the throne smiling broadly.

At the annual Trooping the Colour parade on June 9, Prince George and his cousin Savannah Phillips watched from the Buckingham Palace balcony, but George's chattering prompted amusing efforts by Savannah to get him to pipe down.

A great-grandchild to the Queen, he will be the 43rd monarch since William the Conqueror obtained the crown of England if, as expected, his reign follows those of the Prince of Wales, then William.

In the photo, captured by photographer Matt Porteous, Prince George is showing off a toothy smile.

His grandfather, Prince Charles, is heir to the throne and his father William comes next.
