The longest total lunar eclipse of the century will take place on Friday night, and most of the rest of the world will get a chance to glimpse it.
Near to the reddish lunar eclipse, Mars will also be looking fairly spectacular. England has been scorched by a ruthless sun for weeks, but in some areas stargazers gathered only to see the moon obscured by a sudden spell of cloudy weather.
The eclipse will be visible to people in Europe, Africa and the Middle East on July 27 between sunset and midnight.
Residents in certain parts of the world will witness a rare sight on Friday, as a lunar eclipse and the closest approach of the planet Mars in 15 years will both occur at the same time.
The website will have live footage of the blood moon on Friday and Saturday. It will be on the intervening night of July 27 and 28 with a duration of 1 hour and 43 minutes, making it the longest one.
Our neighbouring planet will appear unusually large and bright, a mere 57.7 million kilometres (35.9 million miles) from Earth on its elliptical orbit around the sun.
Unlike with a solar eclipse, viewers do not need protective eye gear to observe the rare display.
"For those new to astronomy, the evening may prove to be a mesmerising introduction to core scientific principles", said Dr Daniel Cunnama, science engagement astronomer at the SAAO.

"The reason that the moon turns red is because atmospheric scattering causes red light to pass through the atmosphere and the composition of the atmosphere can change if volcanic eruptions or forest fires occur", said Tom Kerss, an astronomer with the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
In Auckland, the eclipse will still be partial as the moon disappeared below the horizon.
The month of July is going to offer a good spectacle in the night sky. The partial lunar eclipse had started around 11:54 pm and the total lunar eclipse took place around 1:05 am.
"Until today I thought Mars, Jupiter and the other planets were in the imagination of scientists", Purity Sailepo, 16, told AFP.
The precise colour of the moon depends on the atmospheric conditions in Earth's atmosphere; the clearer the atmosphere, the brighter and lighter the red appears to be.
The eclipse will not be visible to residents of the USA as by the time the moon rises at night in the U.S., it will have already completed its journey through Earth's shadow, or Umbra.
If you are lucky, you may be able to catch some shooting stars associated with the Perseids, an annual meteor shower, while the Moon is totally eclipsed.
Chicago Cubs acquire lefty Cole Hamels in trade with Texas Rangers
The Cubs, however, don't appear to be discussing the possibility of taking on all of that almost $14MM commitment. His Rangers contract contained a partial no-trade clause, but the Cubs were not among the teams he could block.
