It wasn't clear how much love was on the table Thursday when Newton approached Benjamin on the field at New Era Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., but the quarterback appeared to proffer a handshake that was rejected. Benjamin didn't want to talk to Newton and he didn't want to talk to reporters about Newton, saying: "I mean, I'm just moving on from it I guess".
In an interview with The Athletic's Tim Graham last week, Benjamin was asked how his career has gone since his rookie season and the receiver said he wishes he'd been drafted by another team and wished for another quarterback. Newton followed, trying to catch up, before seeming to give up. Nothing to see here, just a few position battles. This was not one of them. That is because the Carolina Panthers, like most teams, are likely to limit the amount of playing time for their starters to only a series or two in hopes of avoiding possible injuries to key players.
Everton Agree Deal to Sign Mina From Barcelona
Everton signed Yerry Mina for 30.25 million euros, André Gomes on a one-season loan deal, and Bernard on a free transfer. The La Liga champions confirmed Mina's move for a fee of around £27 million, saying they had an option to buy him back.
Panthers tight end Greg Olsen called Benjamin's barbs "weird", adding Sunday (via Panthers.com): "Things didn't work out here for him".
Cam Newton and Kelvin Benjamin did not sort out their disagreement on Thursday. "I should've never went to Carolina".
