They tend to keep a low profile despite spending some time at the White House, much like how former first lady Michelle Obama's mother lived at the White House where she focused on helping raise the Obamas' daughters.

Mrs Trump's parents, a former vehicle dealer and textile factory worker, are Slovenian immigrants who had been living in the United States as permanent residents.

Viktor Knavs, a vehicle salesman in Slovenia, and Amalija, who worked in a textile factory, are over 70 years old, retired and pass much of the year in the United States, where they regularly spend time with their daughter and grandson Barron.

President Trump has campaigned against family-based or so-called "chain" immigration in the past.

He went on: "It seems like we now have two immigration systems".

Tweeting on November 2, 2017, he said: "CHAIN MIGRATION must end now!" "Some people come in, and they bring their whole family with them, who can be truly evil".

FIRST lady Melania Trump's parents have become USA citizens today through a process that her husband has vowed to end.

Viktor and Amalija Knavs took the citizenship oath on August 9, their lawyer, Michael Wildes, confirmed to Fox News. The process is more commonly known as family-based immigration.

The opening to the tournament saw members of the audience facing off against OpenAI as a sort of benchmark of their prowess. It was, however, given five invulnerable couriers-though it was not allowed to scout nor tank creep waves with them.

Amid a bitter debate over immigration - particularly the Trump administration's separation of children from families crossing the border illegally - Wildes said the Knavses' attaining citizenship was "an example of it going right".

According to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website, an average naturalisation application in NY takes between 11 and 21 months and is dependent on numerous character and residency requirements.

Wildes wouldn't comment on how the Knavs received their green cards or citizenship Thursday, but criticized the Trump administration's immigration policies to CNN.

Another amount goes to immigrants based on their employment; other categories include refugees and special cases.

Under immigration statutes, the Knavses would have needed to have their green cards for at least five years to apply for citizenship, along with fulfilling character, residency and civic knowledge requirements. That type of family visa is exactly one of the categories that Trump and his allies have tried to repeal, saying they are harmful to the US.

The plan, which Trump reiterated last week at a Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania rally, would limit immigrants like his wife to sponsoring only their spouses and underage children to join them in the U.S. - not their parents, adult children or siblings.

Viktor and Amalija Knavs are retired, and regularly go on trips with the Trumps to Mar-a-Lago and Bedminster, New Jersey.

The Knavses raised Melania in the rural industrial town of Sevnica while Slovenia was under Communist rule.
