Deadline day round-up: Everton shop in Barcelona, busy Fulham welcome five

Bernard

GETTY Everton are set to sign Bernard

A summer-long chase for Colombia's World Cup star Yerry Mina concluded with a £28.5 million deal with Barcelona, the defender joining former teammate Lucas Digne who moved to Everton last week.

Everton produced a remarkable end to the transfer window as they made three significant additions to Marco Silva's squad in Yerry Mina, Bernard and André Gomes.

A high powered Everton delegation arrived in Barcelona earlier today to finalise an agreement to sign Mina and Gomes from the Catalan giants on deadline day.

The Toffees boss was busy on the final day of the transfer window, bringing those three players to the club, while also securing a loan deal for Kurt Zouma which was confirmed on Friday.

Everton had shown no interest or even suggested a move of this sort, but it is believed while they were negotiating for Mina, they also struck a deal for Gomes, who, Barcelona were already planning to let go.

Bernard, also 25, has signed a four-year deal with the Merseyside club after his contract at Shakhtar ran out in June.

Jose Mourinho 'desperate' for strong Manchester United start
While Jose Mourinho and the transfer until 5pm to buy in new players, their players can be bought or loaned after the deadline. It was a huge boost for a player who has been through the ringer over the last few years but had a positive pre-season.

"It's important the club want to fight for something".

'The manager made me feel confident I wanted to play here because of what he's done in the past.

Marco Silva has told Everton they must have a strong start to the season after their late flurry of transfer dealings. "He is a very good coach and he has achieved really good things at other clubs", he said in a statement.

"Everton is historically the fourth most successful club in England", said Bernard.

"I did not need any convincing to come here".
