Rapper Mac Miller reportedly died on September 7, 2018, of an apparent overdose. Miller later said that the criticism and resulting stress led to him developing an addiction to "purple drank", a combination of codeine and promethazine.
After the two split, Miller got into a vehicle crash and was cited for DUI, which led to people blaming Grande for his troubles. He became a peer of artists including Thundercat, Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples who pioneered progressive combinations of hip-hop and jazz.
Just last week, McCormick released a new album under his stage name Miller.
