Neymar named permanent Brazil captain by coach Tite

And it looks as though Neymar was up to his old tricks again on Friday during Brazil's 2-0 win against the United States.

The persistent rolling around, diving and general petulance of Neymar for Brazil in Russian Federation led to a vast array of humorous memes and gifs that mocked the 26-year-old, who was blasted by fans and critics for his woeful display during Brazil's eventual defeat to Belgium in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Brazil put their World Cup disappointment behind them as the Selecao overpowered a youthful United States of America side 2-0. When Brazil beat the USA 2-0 at Metlife Stadium in August 2010 shortly after the venue opened, the game drew 77,223.

In its first match since a quarterfinal loss to Belgium at the World Cup, Brazil improved to 18-1 against the US - with 11 straight wins since a 1-0 defeat in the 1998 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Playing in New Jersey for the first time since losing to Costa Rica in a World Cup qualifier at Red Bull Arena last September, the US did not force a save from goalkeeper Alisson until the 71st minute.

"In the first half we didn't defend, press as a team", center back John Brooks said.

NASA's Aqua satellite caught Hurricane Florence developing an eye Sunday as the storm ramped up its intensity. The storm is still days away from landfall, and the forecast track will probably change at least a little.

The Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker appeared to have little to do and managed to save a goal at 72 minutes by USA midfielder Wil Trapp, what was perhaps the US' best chance in the match. Twenty-year-old Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie was one of few US players to impress in the absence of Borussia Dortmund teenager Christian Pulisic, who missed the match because of injury.

The referee though whistled for a free-kick for a foul by the Newcastle player on Neymar midway through the first half. Neymar's goal was his 58th in 91 appearances for his country.

Neymar, who now plays for France's PSG, converted the penalty with a soft shot to the left as Steffen lunged to the right.

Neymar, in turn, said he had accepted the armband "because I've learned a lot and I will learn much more, and this responsibility will be a good thing for me".

However, earlier this week, Neymar insisted that he's making an effort not to be so theatric in the future.
