Verizon claims 5G bragging rights; home broadband service launching in October

Verizon in the U.S. has unveiled Verizon 5G Home, which it calls a world-first.

Verizon says it will be the first in the U.S. to offer 5G services, with the carrier adding Indianapolis to its rollout alongside Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Houston.

"Verizon 5G Home customers should expect typical network speeds around 300 Mbps and, depending on location, peak speeds of almost 1 Gig, with no data caps", Verizon said in a statement.

The upcoming 5G service promises to offer download speeds of around 300 Mbps, making it potentially among the fastest ISP products on the market. And best of all, there will be no data caps...

The labs will launch by the end of 2018, and will be kitted out with live 5G networks to help startups, universities, and tech companies to collaborate with Verizon.

"Verizon 5G Home is ideal for consumers looking to "cut the cord" or upgrade from their current cable service".

If you turn out to be eligible for 5G broadband through Verizon, you won't pay anything for the service initially.

As a bonus, Verizon says that 5G Home customers get the ability to be first to 5G mobile phone purchases, once those are made available.

Verizon is offering three months of free YouTube TV and also either a free Apple TV 4K (which starts at a retail price of $180) or a free Google Chromecast Ultra (which starts at a retail price of $70) device at installation.

Mayor Darrell Steinberg said in a press release 5G service will "expand digital access for underserved communities and boost the city's efforts to establish itself as a center for autonomous vehicle testing". Good question. Simply put, 5G networking is the next major evolution of mobile wireless technology.
