Chelsea could welcome Cesc Fabregas back in to the squad after he recovered from a knee injury that's hampered him since the Community Shield but a place on the bench is the best he can hope for as he's not deemed fit to start just yet.

"The last time I spoke with him he told me that he wants to play for another season, but I don't know the situation now", Sarri told a media conference. Chelsea was victorious both times, winning 4-1 at home in the first game and 2-1 away at Cardiff in the second.

Maurizio Sarri has claimed he does not see Chelsea challenging for the Premier League title in his debut season in charge, adding that Manchester City and Liverpool are now the main title contenders. "It's up to him, I am very open with him because of his history with the club".

"It's very hard. The gap last season was 30 points so I think to go above 30 points in one season is very, very hard".

They will be aiming to continue their solid form by beating Cardiff City in front of their home fans this weekend to make it five wins from their opening five games.

"Fortunately last season the average was the same, 2.40 during the season and 2.45 after the break, but only because after the first season the players understood the difficulty of the match".

"At the moment, I can answer Manchester City or Liverpool [are the contenders], he said".

"I think in the coaching staff, I think. It will be a very hard game for everybody who plays Cardiff".

John Terry spent last season playing for Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, and, amid rumours that the Birmingham club would happily welcome the former England captain back into the fold, Terry must now decide whether he is ready to call time on his playing career for the objective of rejoining Chelsea. "We need another step to be at the same level", said the Blues head coach.
