Marion 'Suge' Knight to serve 28 years after plea deal over Compton death

Carter died from his injuries. In the resulting fallout, Knight got into his auto and clipped Sloan, before running over Compton businessman Terry Carter.

Carter was ran over when Suge Knight tried to speed out of the parking lot at Tam's Burgers in Compton where a portion of the movie was being shot. Knight had been facing the possibility of life in prison, and his trial was scheduled to begin Monday with jury selection.

The plea deal was just unveiled in court, and Suge will get 28 years in prison after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter.

On Thursday, Knight requested a new attorney, who would be the 15th in the case. While leaving the set, Knight hit Sloan and ran over Carter.

Knight had also been charged one count of hit-and-run.

During Thursday's hearing, Knight, wearing orange jail attire with his arms and legs in chains, answered Judge Ronald Coen's questions, loudly and quickly saying "no contest" when the judge asked for his plea. He was accused of stealing a camera from a woman and sending threatening text messages to Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray. Court officials had said that no witness list would be released ahead of the trial, and that some witnesses might not be identified by name during the case. Reports state Knight did not want to take the plea deal with media present.

At its peak, Death Row Records racked in hundreds of millions of dollars a year on the backs of artists like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Tupac Shakur.

Knight, 53, is expected to be sentenced to 28 years in prison on October 4 for the 2015 hit-and-run death of Terry Carter. Both rap murders remain unsolved.
