Three infants were among at least five people stabbed at a Queens daycare overnight, according to WNBC.

The incident occurred at the daycare centre in the borough of Queens at about 3:30 a.m. EDT, a spokesman for New York City Police Department said.

A man and woman have also been injured in the attack just before 4am (local time) and victims were either cut or slashed. Her relationship with the children wasn't immediately clear.

The ages of the infants, two girls and a boy, were not clear, but one of the girls is in serious condition, according to police.

Multiple people were stabbed at a day care in New York City. None of the injuries are considered to be life-threatening, despite one of them being seriously hurt.

A 52-year-old woman with self-inflicted knife wounds was taken into custody, said police. She is in police custody at an area hospital.

One of the adults attacked works at the nursery and the other was a father of a child.

She was reportedly being treated at a hospital for a non-life-threatening wound.
