Blasey Ford 'Committed To Moving Forward With An Open Hearing On Thursday'

Brett Kavanaugh

Deadline Passes, Senate Awaits Word On Christine Blasey Ford Testimony

Ford's allegations, which emerged last week, have delayed the conservative judge's confirmation to the Supreme Court that would cement conservative control of the top court.

Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assaulting her at a high school party 36 years ago.

Republicans and Democrats want Ford to testify before the committee; committee leaders have been negotiating the terms with her lawyers. And so we are left basically with he-said, she-said.

"I want to listen to her, but I'm being honest with you and everybody else. What am I supposed to do?" You know, I'm a woman. "It's not my normal approach to b indecisive", Grassley said.

In an email sent to the committee at 2:17 p.m. Saturday, attorneys Debra Katz and Lisa Banks asked staff for Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, to set up a phone conversation later Saturday to work out specifics. "If one Republican senator should decide that Dr. Ford's allegations, assertions are true and that they are serious, it could make a big difference in the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh". Now an appeals court judge, Kavanaugh denies the allegations.

Republicans are frustrated over what they say was the deliberate timing of the last-minute revelation of Ford's allegation, accusing Democrats of seeking to prevent the process from finishing before the midterm elections in a few weeks.

Ford claims Judge Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when both were high schoolers at a suburban Maryland party. "I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place", Trump tweeted.

"We look at this statement as a delay tactic", the official said. Katz rightly called these deadlines arbitrary and more importantly knew she had leverage. Victims of sexual assault often decide not to file a police report or come forward at all because they fear they won't be believed. "So I thought that the president's tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong".

Republicans will be forced to walk a careful line in questioning Ford's account without alienating women voters ahead of the elections. Keyser is the ex-wife of Beckel, a former Democratic operative and commentator. "This is the same man who has been credibly accused of more than a dozen cases of sexual assault or harassment".

In the clip, the women, including Sosa, unanimously say the believe Kavanaugh's denial that any encounter ever took place between himself and Christine Blasey Ford, a Palo Alto University professor.

The Senate Judiciary Committee confirmed that the next Kavanaugh nomination hearing has been rescheduled to Thursday at 10am (2pm Irish time).

A GOP Judiciary Committee investigator contacted Keyser last Tuesday, saying Keyser had been "identified" as attending that party and wanted to talk to her. Committee spokesman Taylor Foy said Keyser's name "came up" in its investigation. Will Donald Trump and Senate Republicans stand with Kavanaugh, or will they pick a new nominee?

He expressed confidence that Republicans "will manage this confirmation properly with the utmost respect for all concerned" and said he expected Mr Kavanaugh to join the high court soon.

McConnell's goal has been to confirm Kavanaugh by 1 October, the start of the Supreme Court term.

Grassley has been tweeting about the potential hearing regarding Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's allegations against Kavanaugh since September 19, saying that he and his colleagues wanted to hear from her and would "treat this situation with the sensitivity it deserves". Meanwhile, Democrats have made numerous attempts to stall Kavanaugh's selection, with the GOP still holding a slim majority in the Senate.
