Woods, Rose tied for halfway lead at Tour Championship

Tiger Woods is Putting on a Clinic at the Tour Championship [UPDATE]

Tiger Woods, seeking a first win for five years after waves of personal and professional turmoil, will take a three-shot lead into the final round of the Tour Championship at East Lake.

Woods came out firing at East Lake, and birdied six of his first seven holes to hit 13-under for the event. And he has never coughed up a lead of three shots or more.

Woods opened with a birdie at the first, and didn't stop there, adding birdies at the third, fourth, and fifth holes while co-leader Justin Rose bogied the first and second. Rose showed his resolve after opening with consecutive bogeys, then rallying to shoot 68 to stay in touch with Woods. A four-time major victor, McIlroy, 29, has played with Woods just once in a final round, back at the 2012 Masters when both were well out of contention.

Three rounds of the 2018 Tour Championship are in the books, and Tiger Woods is now the golfer to beat at East Lake (a fun game is to imagine yourself a year ago reading those words a year from then). It was a slow bleed for Fowler, who went birdie-free over his last 12 holes and shot 39 on the back nine for a 72.

Fellow Queenslander Cameron Smith carded an even-par 70, while Marc Leishman is three shots further back after he carded a 73.

The European Tour can simply not compete with the financial muscle of its American counterpart and Pelley will also be disappointed to hear that Tommy Fleetwood, the order of merit champion, will be cutting back his events on his home tour as well.

"This course, the way it's playing right now, you've got to be so patient, " Woods said.

The victor of the FedEx Cup receives a $10 million bonus, and Woods has a shot if Rose falters.

"I didn't really mis-hit a single shot today and I felt I had a lot of control over my shots".

Iran's Revolutionary Guard is a paramilitary force answerable only to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Shi'ite Iran is at odds with Western-allied Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia for predominance in the Middle East.

"The best way to describe today is I ground out a round", said Woods, a former two-time victor of the season-ending tournament.

Casey's 66 on Day 3 at the Tour Championship vaulted him into a tie for sixth place, but as the Englishman quickly vetted the math he knew those numbers were nothing more than window dressing. Woods has had multiple chances this season to complete the comeback and he's come up short each time.

Woods has had four finishes in the top 5, a runner-up by one shot at Innisbrook and by two shots at the PGA Championship.

His second round was a sour mix of just two birdies and seven bogeys. A Saturday 65 for Woods was the lowest in the 30-man field.

Day three saw traces of vintage Woods. "He was running the tables there".

"The crowds were electric because of it, " Rose said.

"For the most part, I did that".

"I got off to a nice start and made some nice putts".
