Investigators to look at security footage to track Dallas officer night she killed black neighbor

"And instead of investigating the homicide - instead of going into her apartment and seeing what they can find, instead of collecting evidence relevant for the homicide investigation - they went out specifically looking for ways to tarnish the image of this young man".

The entire episode started the night of September 6 when Guyger entered Jean's apartment, purportedly confusing his for hers and shooting him because she thought he was a burglar.

Guyger, who was hired by the department in November 2013, had been assigned to the city's Southeast Patrol Division. She can still appeal her firing.

The Dallas Police Department general orders - the policies that officers have to follow and are governed by within the department - allow the chief to "circumvent all formal disciplinary procedures to render an immediate decision when it deems it necessary to preserve the integrity of the department". Hall also said that an internal investigation could "potentially compromise the criminal investigation".

The Dallas Police Department turned over the investigation to the Texas Rangers.

An arrest affidavit prepared by the Texas Rangers provided a narrative of what happened the night Jean was killed. The Dallas Police Department did not release details of its deliberations. Police are analyzing the digital door locks of both Jean and Guyger's apartments to get a better idea of what occurred. She lived on the third floor, but mistook Jean's fourth floor residence for hers, according to the arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News.

District Attorney Faith Johnson has said that her office "will make sure that justice is done in this case".

Jean family attorneys and protesters have called for her firing following the shooting.

This is a developing story.
