Called the Oculus Quest, this VR headset will provide six degrees of freedom and will come with Oculus Touch wireless controllers. Oculus and Facebook staff were keen to advertise the Oculus Go as one of the most affordable ways to get involved in virtual reality (VR). The Oculus Quest checks off those boxes, with zero cables, full-room tracking and PC-like motion controls. Games and software designed for Quest, and future Oculus headsets, will still work on the original Rift.
Fast forward to 2017, when we introduced two positionally-tracked controllers at OC4 for a glimpse of the magic of hand presence delivered by Touch delivered in a standalone form factor. But the most enticing thing about the quest is its price: $399. This figure is well under what many VR fans expected the standalone HMD to cost, particularly in knowing that the headset is aiming for Rift-quality experiences.
Flake gets a firsthand look at rage about Kavanaugh
Friday's action comes one day after hearing emotionally charged testimony from both Kavanaugh and one of his accusers, Dr. Kavanaugh meanwhile said in a statement that he had done "everything" requested of him and would "continue to cooperate".
Oculus Quest builds on what the Go offers in several significant ways. This new system uses four ultra wide-angle sensors and computer vision algorithms to track your exact position in real time without any external sensors. Thanks to Oculus Quest, we're now able to combine the best of both worlds and welcome even more people into the VR community. For starters, we don't know the computing specs of the headset. Indeed, the system uses its Oculus Insight technology to circumvent this.
Just like the Oculus Rift, the Quest has a 1600 x 1440 resolution per eye but the users do have the option to adjust lens spacing.
Interestingly, an upcoming Star Wars experience from ILMxLAB will also be available on Oculus Quest with its first episode, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series debuting on Oculus Quest for launch. That night, watch as the main stage transforms into an esports arena for the VR League's Onward Grand Finals from 6:00 to 10:00 pm PT. Tune in September 27 at 10:00 am PT for Oculus CTO John Carmack's signature unscripted keynote. It also includes built-in speakers, apparently with an improved bass system.
