The ambassador said the Istanbul consulate is fully cooperating with local authorities and that a Saudi team was sent to Istanbul to cooperate with their Turkish counterparts.

In his opinion articles, Khashoggi has been critical of some policies of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Riyadh's intervention in the war in Yemen.

Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said in a string of tweets Monday that "if there is any truth to the allegations of wrongdoing by the Saudi government it would be devastating to the US-Saudi relationship and there will be a heavy price to be paid - economically and otherwise".

Saudi Arabia denies the suggestion. Erdogan said of the consular officials at a news conference in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.

"We are ready to welcome the Turkish government to go and search our premises", he said.

Saudi authorities continue to insist they played no role in Khashoggi's disappearance.

Turkey also said on Tuesday that it will search the consulate as part of an investigation into the disappearance of the Saudi contributor to The Washington Post.

It is well-known that Turkey and Saudi Arabia have, of late, been involved in a fierce competition to gain supremacy in the Middle East and Gulf region. Saudi officials have said that he left shortly afterwards but his fiancée, who was waiting outside, said he never appeared.

Turkish officials told Reuters over the weekend that they believed Khashoggi had been killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, and President Tayyip Erdogan said he was personally following the case.

The fate of a dissident Saudi journalist who has disappeared in Istanbul, remains unknown.

Indonesia has the world's biggest Muslim population but also pockets of Christians, including on Sulawesi, and other religions. The number of people who were missing or believed to be buried under the debris were 683 and 152 respectively, he said.

Khashoggi went missing in Istanbul last week.

The image was given to the Post by someone close to the Turkish investigation and released by the USA daily soon after Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan challenged the Saudis to prove he left the consulate unharmed.

"The Saudi authorities must immediately give a full and credible accounting of what happened to Khashoggi inside its diplomatic mission", the CPJ said in a statement.

A Qatari academic in Qatar University said some media persons who give lectures about journalistic ethics have been exposed to be the most reckless.

Saudi Arabia has always been a pillar of United States policy in the Middle East, and while the relationship was rocky during President Obama's tenure, Trump has embraced Riyadh.

Turkey's foreign ministry on Wednesday summoned Saudi Arabia's ambassador over the issue.

Even President Donald Trump, who took his first overseas trip as United States president to the kingdom and whose son-in-law Jared Kushner has close ties to Prince Mohammed, said he had concerns.

Saudi Arabia is a longtime ally of the United States, but on Monday senior USA officials expressed alarm over Khashoggi's disappearance.

According to two sources quoted by The Washington Post, for which Khashoggi worked, the journalist died earlier this week at the hands of a Saudi assassination squad.

Interestingly, it is now said that a 15-member Saudi delegation had come to Turkey recently and the delegates also comprised, among others, diplomats and security or intelligence contingent.
