United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who stunned Washington with her surprise announcement she is resigning her post, was facing an ethics complaint over her acceptance of private travel between SC and Washington, D.C.
Timing of the announcement raised TV news eyebrows, coming as it does just weeks before the midterm election though Haley, widely regarded as a stabilizing influence on Trump, told reporters at a pop-up White House presser she will stay until the end of the year.
Trump tweeted that he has a "big announcement with my friend Ambassador Nikki Haley in the Oval Office at 10:30 a.m".

Sitting alongside Trump in the Oval Office Tuesday, Haley went on to praise the current administration's foreign policy, saying "the USA is respected".
As it turned out, Haley suggested her departure was no more than a case of burnout.
"Well, I had a personal conversation with the president about Charlottesville, and I will leave it at that", Haley told CNN's Dana Bash at the time.

"In South Carolina, I was the first minority governor and - a real shock to the state - the first girl governor as well". The Senate overwhelmingly confirmed her to the post in January 2017, by a vote of 96-4. As a private citizen, I look forward to supporting your re-election as President, and supporting the policies that will continue to move our great country toward even greater heights.
