Every Mind Matters has been developed in conjunction with leading charities, academics and clinicians and is endorsed by leading experts in mental health. It can include a clinical assessment by mental health specialists, diagnosis, counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy as well as other specialist help.

The Lancet Commission on Global Mental Health and Sustainable Development urged high income countries such as the United Kingdom to spend 10% of their health care budget on mental health. They also provide the opportunity for employees to give feedback about what changes could be made within the workplace to enhance wellbeing. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization with members and contacts in more than 150 countries.

Observed each year on October 10, World Mental Health Day aims to raise awareness and change attitudes surrounding mental health issues around the world by encouraging people to looking after their own well-being.

"It's about understanding that we're all responsible for one another", she says.

The public spending watchdog also warned that the number of young people with a mental health condition is likely to be higher than previously estimated, which will make government ambitions harder to realise.

"And we also know that for each person affected, there are four to five other individuals around them that are also impacted in some way, so all up, there are something like 4 million Australians who are affected in some way by these more complex mental health concerns. and that is a pretty conservative estimate", Dr Blanchard says.
