Even before it rose, the Mega Millions jackpot - at a whopping $654 million when the day began - was still among the largest lottery prizes in USA history.

Wednesday night's Powerball drawing will be the 19th since the jackpot was last hit August 11, when a $245.6 million jackpot was won on a ticket sold in NY.

The jackpot for Tuesday night's Mega Millions drawing hit $667 million. The largest, just $2 million more, was drawn in March 2012. The next Mega Millions drawing will be Tuesday. Any player who matches all numbers Wednesday night will win $9.6 million ($5.53 million cash option). One lucky victor, Ashley Eggen of Elizabethtown, Ky., took in $1 million during Friday's drawing for matching the five-ball numbers drawn, according to NBC.

And Friday's Mega Millions wasn't a complete bust.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Tuesday at 11 p.m. ET, and tickets must be purchased by 10:00 p.m. Tuesday to be eligible.

That's when the next Powerball drawing is.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The big jackpots could mean lines at some ticket locations as the drawings near.
