Police discovered the body of Royalty Marie Floyd, a 20-month-old girl who had been stabbed and then baked in an oven when they responded to a MS home Monday.

According to the Boliver County Sheriff's Office, 48-year-old Carolyn Jones was arrested on Tuesday and charged with the death of her granddaughter in Shaw, Mississippi.

Investigators say Royalty was living with her grandmother at the time.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain says police were called Monday night to a home in the town of Shaw.

Williams said he struggled to make sense of the heinous act.

"All I know is that my mother stabbed my daughter and put her in the oven and cooked her", she said.

"I've been in law enforcement a long time, 26 years nearly", Williams said.

Jones made an initial appearance Tuesday evening before a judge, who set bail at $500,000. Police in turn called the sheriff's department and others for assistance. "The hardest part ... is to see a child victim". "This is one of the most frightful things I've seen in doing law enforcement".

Williams said he won't release the names of the grandmother or the toddler until the filing of the murder charge is completed.

Neighbours said they rarely saw anyone coming in and out of the home.

WLOX reported that the girl's body has been sent to the Mississippi state crime lab for an autopsy and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the state crime lab have been called to investigate.
