UEFA Nations League: Loew's job under threat as France beat Germany

In terms of results, Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Netherlands was the worst, as they were comfortably swept aside by Ronald Koeman's young team.

Germany's Toni Kroos, right, beats French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to score on a penalty in the first half of their Uefa Nations League match at Stade de France in Saint Denis, north of Paris.

France now top Group 1 in League A with seven points from three matches while Germany are yet to win a match in their Nations League campaign after three games.

The Germans deservedly led through a Kroos penalty after a sliding Presnel Kimpembe handled a Sane cross, but Loew's youthful frontline was unable to capitalise on further opportunities.

Griezmann, however, made no mistake from the spot.

After 62 minutes he met Lucas Hernandez's cross with a wonderful glancing header to leave Manuel Neuer with no chance. The comeback was completed in the 80th minute after Mats Hummels was adjudged to have bundled over Blaise Matuidi, though the contact looked minimal. "I think we deserved to win because we were the best team but that's not how things work. When you are not having a good day, you can change the system and the players, but (the French team) never gives up, and that's how we keep going". "It was a very, very good performance and something to build on for the future".

Didier Deschamps' France can clinch top spot in the group with a draw in their final game away to the Netherlands in Rotterdam next month.

Griezmann admitted Germany's revamped set-up had knocked France off track initially, but he said a series of "calm" exchanges at half-time allowed them to regain their rhythm.

In the first half, we could have been two-nil up, but France have a lot of individual quality.

"Yes, I understand that there is a debate and we have to deal with it", Loew told broadcaster ZDF. "Tactically speaking, we weren't making enough effort for one another", Griezmann said.

It was a sixth defeat in the past 10 games for Löw's team, who crashed out at the group stage of the World Cup and remain bottom of Nations League Group A1 with one point from three matches.
