"Don't risk a hung Parliament".
Independent Kerryn Phelps achieved an unprecedented swing of more than 20 per cent against Liberal candidate Dave Sharma in Malcolm Turnbull's former seat of Wentworth on Saturday.
It is understood that Mr Sharma is not interested in a Senate seat, and the only one available to him would be the spot promised to Andrew Bragg, who pulled out of the preselection race because he felt a female candidate was the Liberal's best hope in Wentworth.
Independent candidate Kerryn Phelps claimed victory in the electorate of Wentworth with just over 30 percent of the vote counted.
Deputy Labor leader Tanya Plibersek scoffed at Mr Morrison's warning, saying it was "impossible" to argue a vote for the Liberal Party was a vote for stability.
It's the biggest by-election loss in Australian history.
Voters in the seat have been appalled by the infighting that has led to the removal of four coalition and Labor leaders in the past eight years.
"What we have done is tapped into a sentiment in the Australian people, to talk about the issues that are important to them, not the issues about survival for a particular political party", Phelps told supporters during her victory speech.
"The Liberal party has been taken over, frankly, by extremists on the hard right who aren't particularly motivated to win an election and aren't particularly motivated to serve the general public", he said.
She was leading with 54.8 per cent of the two-party preferred vote against Liberal candidate Dave Sharma at around 8pm on Saturday night.
G League to offer 'select contracts' to elite prospects
With the G League's "Select Contracts", they are able to have an agent and dive into the advertising game without being penalized. A change is still expected for the 2022 NBA Draft which would open selection to all graduating high school seniors once again.
"Liberals are angry and they've expressed that", Morrison said.
"While tonight is not an unexpected outcome for us, they have looked at Canberra and the Liberal Party has paid a big price tonight for the events of several months ago. But as a party, we will continue to rise again".
But if the result in Wentworth is anything to go by, the country may not be listening.
'There has been high expectations that this is a seat that can not be lost by the Liberal Party - I have never thought that'.
Wentworth resident Roslyn Taylor said she was frustrated with politicians and the chaos that has plagued the main parties in recent years.
The Liberal candidate said the "unique circumstances" that sparked the vote meant the election was going to be hard.
"None of them have really got their mind on the job".
Mr Morrison was widely criticised for saying he would consider following Donald Trump in recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital, widely seen as a bid to appeal to Wentworth's sizeable Jewish vote.
It was not clear what would become of that plan following the election's results, but with Morrison now effectively a lame duck prime minister, its prospects appeared diminished.
