The New England Patriots barely survived against the Kansas City Chiefs in a Sunday night shootout a week ago.

During the 38-31 win over the Bears, Gordon had his first 100-yard game as a Patriot. Gordon seems to be doing just fine.

"I had him matched up on a one-on-one, and he just went up and got it", quarterback Tom Brady said. "I didn't have the angle on the goal line". It was probably a half yard or a yard, pretty close. It was a great play for him, definitely. I wanted to grab it. Somebody else went up to grab it. There was pushing and pulling and everything like that. "Fortunately enough, we were able to hold them out of the end zone".

"When you see that everybody does their job, and resorts back to their rules and plays by their rules, we can get a good play out of a situation like that". With Gronkowski out against the Bears, he came up big-time in a game where they really needed him to be a big-play weapon. "So after I caught it, I thought I had a chance, like I said, for a split-second and once I felt a bunch of guys I knew it was over".

The five-time Pro Bowl tight end missed the game because of ankle and back injuries.

Brady improved to 5-0 against Chicago, one of five teams yet to beat him.

If Michel can't return, backup Kenjon Barner and James White are the only healthy running backs available. Gordon said offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had mentioned that possibility in advance, so the pass catchers had practiced different looks and groupings.

White had 57 yards receiving and two TDs. Trubisky dazzled with his legs, covering over 70 yards on an eight-yard touchdown run and dancing his way to a 39-yard scramble that set up a touchdown in the third quarter. Also can't forget that Julian Edelman muffed a punt, but recovered his own muff. Rookie running back Sony Michel left in the second quarter because of a knee injury.

The Patriots have released their inactives for today's road game against the Chicago Bears, and there were no surprises.

Chicago has dropped two in a row after winning three straight to take sole possession of the NFC North lead for the first time since 2013.

There is room for optimism after the Bears' second loss in a row.

"A lot of people were out of rhythm", he said. Add in an inaccurate game from Mitch Trubisky - who completed 26 of 50 passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions - and an uneventful afternoon for Khalil Mack and the pass rush, and the Bears had to scratch and claw to hang with New England.

Michel had rushed for 22 yards on four carries and he caught one pass for 13 yards prior to suffering the injury. But then again: When the Jets come to town next weekend, it'll have been almost a month since the Bears' last win.
