Police who rushed to the Hot Yoga studio in Tallahassee on Friday afternoon after reports of gunfire found four other people with bullet wounds and the body of the 40-year-old assailant, Scott Beierle, who had apparently shot himself.
One of the women killed was identified as Nancy Van Vessem, 61, a doctor specializing in internal medicine who was a member of the faculty at Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee.
As the Associated Press reports, the alleged assailant, Scott Paul Beierle, shot at least six people and pistol-whipped another inside the studio. Vessem and Binkley died at the hospital and the other four are in critical condition, DeLeo said. Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo said some in the studio showed courage and tried to stop him.
Police have not identified a motive, but are "continuing to follow up the investigative leads for (Beierle) and what made him come to our community and commit this heinous act here", DeLeo said.
Two people have died after a gunman opened fire inside a yoga studio in Tallahassee, Florida.
Dr. Nancy Van Vessem was also killed in the shooting.
"I jumped up as quickly as I could", said Quick, who had visible injuries on his face.
Beierle had been arrested twice in the past six years by the university's police, according to criminal records.

Imagine schools and campuses who gave out admissions and scholarships trying to revoke their decisions. There is already discontent from public figures about Trump's legality of his executive order.
Beierle, a graduate of Florida State University with prior military service, had previously been the subject of police calls for harassing young women, according to the statement.
"No act of gun violence is acceptable", Mr Gillum tweeted.
In one video uncovered by Buzzfeed, Beierle name-checked Elliot Rodger, who released a manifesto about his hatred for women before going on a shooting rampage in Santa Barbara, California in 2014. Other outrages in his life included women who gave him their phone numbers and later told him they had boyfriends.
The shooting Friday was in a small Tallahassee shopping center and multiple police cars and ambulances were on the scene. The second woman said Beierle had also grabbed her on "three separate occasions over the last month".
The yoga students fought back, police said, but two women were killed and five people were wounded.
"We just heard 'pow, pow, pow, pow, '" Wesson said. Bohnett said that those at the studio Friday were yoga devotees. When he loaded his gun, people started pounding the windows of the studio to warn people.
Officials at Florida State University said the two slain Friday were an FSU student and faculty member.
Gillum, who is also the Democratic nominee in the Florida governor's race, took a brief break from campaigning and returned to Tallahassee on Friday evening after receiving news of the shooting.
