Queen invites Meghan's mum to spend Christmas with the royal family

Doria Ragland got to know the royals, including Prince Charles and Camilla, at Meghan and Harry's wedding in May.

The move is somewhat unprecedented, as a member outside of the Royal family has not been invited to stay at the Norfolk estate during the Christmas period before.

While Kate's familu have joined the royal for mass on Christmas morning, they have stayed at Anmer Hall.

A royal source said that the move was "a very thoughtful gesture", and quite unique to be honest.

The move is believed to be mark of the Queen's respect for Meghan and an acknowledgement that she doesn't have any other relations in this country - unlike Kate who has the support of a very close family.

Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, memorably broke protocol a year ago by inviting Meghan as the first fiancée to attend Christmas with the royal family before her wedding to Harry in May.

Doria's composure during the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding back in May left a lasting impression on the Queen, especially in the midst of all the drama surrounding Meghan's father, Thomas Markle.

Doria was also in London in September and joined her daughter at an outdoor reception at Kensington Palace to mark the launch of a cookbook.

Doria introduced herself to guests on the day as "Meg's mom".

A source tells ET that Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, is expected to spend some of the holiday with her pregnant daughter and her son-in-law.

Meghan and Harry recently returned to the United Kingdom from their mammoth Commonwealth tour and will be spending their first Christmas together as husband and wife in December.
