Holding an early Thanksgiving dinner, or even lunch, this year?

For the millions of shoppers on Black Friday, one of the places to go would be at Best Buy store in your location.

Walmart has opted to commence its on-store sale earlier than ever, the retail locations will open at 4 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22.

Walmart (wmt) is kicking off things starting on Thursday with 18 Black Friday deals available exclusively on its website. Free coffee and Christmas cookies will be available to the fearless souls who show up - though most of Walmart's Black Friday deals will come online the evening before, at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

Speaking with reporters yesterday, Walmart US Chief Merchandising Officer Steve Bratspies said the company is planning to offer "hundreds of the most wanted items"-including TVs, iPhones, toys, and cookware sets-"at the best prices". Experts anticipate household spending in the burgeon by a large slice (by as much as 25% higher) compared to the previous year. J.C. Penney JCP is getting an even earlier start and opening at 2 p.m.

The countdown to one of the biggest shopping events in the calendar year has now begun, with millions of shoppers worldwide hoping to bag a bargain on Black Friday.


Still, the battle for shoppers' dollars online continues between Walmart and its biggest rival, Amazon AMZN.

Deep discounts and free shipping are some of the goodies these retailers are offering to lure customers.

"Although the rate of online sales growth is accelerating faster than that of physical stores, retailers should put resources behind both to be relevant", said Rod Sides, head of Deloitte's US retail and distribution team.
