Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette has earned a long-awaited return to the France national team after a year out of the squad.

The 27-year-old was left-out of Didier Deschamps' plans when the 23-man party to face Netherland and Uruguay was unveiled last Thursday.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and forward Anthony Martial have withdrawn from the France squad for the Nations League match against Holland and friendly with Uruguay because of injury.

However, the Mirror claim Lacazette informed French bosses within hours that he had to reject the worldwide call-up and make himself unavailable for selection due to a minor groin injury.

Alassane Plea, the Borussia Monchengladbach forward who has scored eight goals in 11 Bundesliga appearances this season including a hat-trick during the weekend win over Werder Bremen, has been selected for his maiden global call-up as a result.

Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy is out of the France squad for their upcoming internationals with a sprained left knee and meniscal lesion, according to L'Equipe. Martial last played for France in March a 3-1 win over Russian Federation, and was not selected for the World Cup, which his teammates won in July.

But only hours later he was heading back to Manchester after consulting national team doctor Frank Le Gall about a knock he picked up during training.

Lacazette's last cap came in November 2017's draw to Germany and Sissoko has not featured in an global game since the victory over Belarus last October.

Speaking about Lacazette in October, Deschamps said: 'It is true that he is having a good early season where he is efficient and effective.

'This does not take away the credit for what he does.
