Microsoft Promises Greater Transparency on Windows 10 Update Quality Issues

Microsoft Re-releasing Windows 10 October Update (1809) Today

Microsoft's new Windows 10 19H1 test build adds new light theme, more updating and printing options

In recent years, we have seen Microsoft extend the Dark Theme across Windows 10 services.

New additions include - the support for DirectX Raytracing (DXR), the new Dark Mode, cloud clipboard, a new feature that blocks Window Update notifications, and a new Storage Sense feature used for clearing hard drive space.

The October Update was a surprise in that Microsoft didn't test it with the Windows Insider Program's Release Preview ring, which is where production builds are usually tested before release.

If the screenshot is anything to go by, it's going to be a good-looking theme, too. Form now onwards, choosing light mode will bring white tint to every element of Windows 10. Alongside the announcement of the resumption of the update's rollout, Microsoft's Michael Fortin also penned a blog post outlining the company's commitment to ensuring the quality of its software from this point forward. Windows 10 19H1 is that build and will be released to end users during next spring.

Further, users can now enable 'Intelligent Active Hours, ' which will allow Windows to adjust the time it can install updates based on your usage.

Microsoft has also added a new default wallpaper.

"We will offer the October Update to users via Windows Update when data shows your device is ready and you will have a great experience", the company said in its blog.

As a result, the number of customer service chats and calls has actually decreased according to Microsoft, despite increasing Windows 10 installations. The snafu has caused Microsoft to take a more measured approach to rolling out future updates. For instance, such points have been made by Susan Bradley, a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional (MVP) and moderator of the Patchmangement.org list-serve discussion forum for IT pros.
