The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) threatened Apple in July to ban iPhones in India after the Cupertino giant refused to implement anti-spam measures for Indian iPhone users.

Apple has approved TRAI's DND app, which is available for download on the App Store as "TRAI DND - Do Not Disturb". Currently, it is unclear that the version of DND that is released in the App Store follows the additional privacy protection or not. While the report failed to explain or prove that Apple blinked and complied, we were able to find the new app on Apple India's App Store as our cover graphic presents.

However, this July, TRAI categorically asked access providers to ensure "within six months' time, that all smartphones registered on its network support the permissions required for the functioning of such Apps".

For those unaware, with the TRAI DND app, iPhone users can register their mobile number for DND (Do Not Disturb), and can also report spam calls and SMS - an issue that nearly every Indian mobile user faces on daily basis. It sought access to a user's SMS and call logs and on this subject, Apple was very touchy because it believed that third-parties should not access such details.

Maine Rep.-Elect Golden Votes Against Pelosi
Women who oppose Pelosi's bid for speaker take issue with the suggestion that the movement against her is sexist or anti-feminist. But the opposition to her - largely coming from centrist Democrats - have taken offense to that charge and may put up Rep.

With China reportedly responsible for 40 percent of Apple's app store revenue, it's not surprising to see the company kowtowing to the government and its strict restrictions on content. From then on, you won't get disturbed by the unwanted call. The app will allow you to select DND preferences, and will set up the SMS to send.

"Do Not Disturb" app has finally gone live on the Apple App Store as well as iOS devices with the latest version of the software.

More than 700 apps have been removed from the Chinese App Store in recent days, according to local reports.

This can be done with spam SMS as well, through a "report message" option just below an SMS from any sender that is not in your contact list.
