He insisted he wasn't a flight risk and understood the allegations were serious - but the magistrate ruled in favour of police, and Mr Dawson spent last night at Southport Watchhouse awaiting his extradition to NSW.
Police will use previous interviews they had conducted with Mr Dawson since his wife's disappearance as evidence in the case.
Mrs Dawson vanished from her home in Sydney's Northern Beaches in January 1982.
Chris Dawson, 70, was arrested on a warrant and hauled before a Queensland court on Wednesday nearly four decades after his wife was last seen alive.
Detective Superintendent Scott Cook said the 70-year-old was "calm and a little bit taken aback" when arrested on Wednesday morning.
"Ideally, in this case we will not give up on trying to identify the whereabouts of Lynette Dawson but, from our perspective, it is not crucial to finalising the matter".
"No doubt it will be a voluminous briefs with an enormous amount of evidence and there are a number of witnesses that will be called", he said.
Mr Dawson's family released a statement yesterday, insisting he would be found not guilty.
Police have spoken to Lyn Dawson's family this morning, who are "relieved". He said depending on the court process, he could be bailed to a Sydney court in three or four weeks.

Earlier this week, the ODPP provided advice to police, and following further inquiries, NSW police detectives applied for an arrest warrant before travelling to Queensland. He has said that she abandoned the family for a religious group.
