Late George H.W. Bush valued ‘constructive dialogue’ with Russia – Putin

McCain's memorial services - which culminated with a funeral at Washington's Washington National Cathedral attended by heads of state, military brass and other elites - amounted to an extraordinary repudiation of Trump's presidency and a melancholy last hurrah for all that had been lost in the Trump era. He praised the elder Bush, who died Friday, as "a high-quality man who truly loved his family". "And I'm not too excited about him being a leader".

Bush served as president from 1989-1993, entering office during a period of global upheaval.

He added, "President Bush always found a way to set the bar higher".

The nation's 41st president died late on Friday, November 30, 2018, at the age of 94 - about eight months after the death of his wife, Barbara Bush.

In a 2006 interview with CNN's Larry King on "Larry King Live", Bush, who flew combat missions in World War II, read part of a letter he wrote his five children before the start of the Gulf War in which he discussed the phrase.

The 41st US president met with Latter-day Saint leaders on numerous occasions, according to the book "Presidents and Prophets".

New leader chosen to replace Germany's Angela Merkel
The 56-year-old, now CDU general secretary, beat Friedrich Merz by 517 to 482 votes to clinch the leadership position. They were said to be reasonably close, and the lack of communication between the two raised eyebrows at the time.

"It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of one of America's greatest points of light", Trump said in a statement.

Trump also announced that he has authorized the use of the iconic Boeing 747 presidential aircraft, known as Air Force One whenever a president is on board, to transport Bush's remains to Washington - a customary honor for a former president.

President Trump, in typically Trumpian fashion, shared both a formal prepared statement and an off-the-cuff tweet on the subject, lauding Bush's "long, successful and handsome life" (?) in the latter.

They wrote that those whom Bush had inspired to public service were "illuminating the greatness, hope and opportunity of America to the world". But he made clear what he thought of Trump.

James Baker III, former secretary of state and White House chief of staff under Bush, said in a statement that he led with "strength, integrity, compassion and humility" on the global stage and in everyday interactions. I know what he would say: "Nonsense".
