It is an enhanced texting experience, pretty much like other services similar to WhatsApp, complete with typing indicators, read receipts, the ability to send high-quality photos and videos, as well as improved group chat. If you're using Allo, you can export your conversation history from the app until it closes down in March. So it should come as no surprise that Google is looking to get rid of Allo, and it is being replaced by Android Messages, unsurprisingly. Moving all existing users over to Hangouts Chat and the video conferencing app Hangouts Meet. These are mainly focused on team collaboration for G Suite customers and will be available for Hangout users also.
