Perry went on to reveal the big news and locations impacted by his generosity.

Anyone who had items on layaway before 9:30 a.m. Thursday is covered - and will only need to pay one penny to retrieve their items, Perry said.

The money paid outstanding layaway bills for two Atlanta-area Walmart stores - 844 Cleveland Avenue in East Point, Georgia and 7001 Concourse Parkway in Douglasville, Georgia.

Tyler Perry is in the spirit of the season.

"I was trying to do this anonymously, but due to some circumstances - y'all know nothing stays secret these days", he said in the video. "So, Merry Christmas to everybody".

Christmas came early for hundreds of families thanks to Tyler Perry.

"I know it's hard times, a lot of people are struggling", Perry said. "The heartfelt excitement and joy we're seeing from our customers as a result of his holiday gift has been touching".

"You gotta go into the Walmart, get your layaway, pay a penny, one penny, and you get your layaway", he continued. "THANK YOU! #SparkKindness", a representative for Walmart tweeted.

Like Perry, Benson had hoped to remain anonymous, but enough media outlets picked up the story that the New Orleans Saints confirmed her good deed on Thursday.

In recent weeks, anonymous good Samaritans have paid off all layaway items in four Walmart stores in different parts of the country - a total of more than $130,000.
