The movies "Green Book" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" took top honours winning the best picture comedy and drama categories.

At the time of writing, it now holds a 62% on Rotten Tomatoes and though that's far from the end of the world, it does make Bohemian Rhapsody the lowest rated Golden Globe Best Picture victor since 1985's Out of Africa.

Singer has always been a controversial figure in the movie industry with a history of disruptive on-set behaviour, including on Bohemian Rhapsody, from which he was sacked and was replaced by Dexter Fletcher who completed the shoot.

Singer, who was not present at the awards, celebrated the film's win on Instagram.

Rami Malek, who portrayed Freddie Mercury, completed an unexpected double for the film as he took home the corresponding award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture. Yet here we are, still pretending that Bryan Singer doesn't have years of credible allegations of horrific sexual assaults and abuses of power stacked up against him.

In the past five years, the top acting awards at the Globes and the Oscars have matched three times. "Once people stake their claim, it's hard for them to withdraw". Both Queen drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May attended the Golden Globes, and May spoke out on the negative reaction that the movie has received in some quarters. "So, I thought I could easily go up and say, 'Hi, ' but in a moment like that..."

In his acceptance speech, Malek said, "I'm beyond moved".
