Michael Cohen to testify before House Oversight Committee

Michael Cohen agrees to testify before Congress after pleading guilty to fraud and deception

Trump's ex-lawyer Michael Cohen to testify in public before Congress

The committee has a hearing with Cohen posted on its public schedule.

Mr Trump acted because he "was very concerned about how this would affect the election", Cohen said. Most relevant are the details concerning the hush payments to two women who claim to have had sexual affairs with Trump and information on the Trump campaign's dealings with Russian Federation.

Trump has denied having the extramarital affairs.

Cohen's cooperation with Mueller prompted a falling out with his former client, with Trump attacking Cohen on Twitter, including accusing him of lying to try to lessen his jail sentence.

The hearing will be February 7 before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, according to a schedule published by Democratic Chairman Elijah Cummings, making the president's former "fixer" the first former Trump confidant connected to special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation to cooperate with Democrats since taking control of the House. He went on: "I look forward to having the privilege of being afforded a platform with which to give a full and credible account of the events which have transpired". Trump told reporters in McAllen, Texas, on Thursday that he was "not worried" about Cohen's testimony "at all".

It will also examine the payments Cohen made in 2016 just ahead of the election for the silence of two women who had claimed to have had affairs with Mr Trump.

Cohen said he secretly used shell companies to make payments of $150,000 United States and $130,000, respectively, to silence former Playboy model Karen McDougal and adult film actress Stormy Daniels for the goal of influencing the 2016 election. He said he's speaking with Mueller's office to prevent that.

The newly installed chairmen of at least two other panels, the Judiciary and Intelligence committees, have said they want to speak with Cohen about his work on behalf of Trump.

Maurizio Sarri Confirms He Wants Two New Players At Chelsea This January
Higuain has not enjoyed his time at AC Milan , where he is now on loan from Juventus , and would welcome a move to west London. Willian was on Thursday linked with Barcelona, but Sarri ruled out the prospect of the Brazilian departing this month.

He pleaded guilty in August in return for a plea deal.

The payments made or orchestrated to women during the campaign - to adult-film star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal - to stay silent about alleged sexual encounters with Trump are also sure to be a hot topic at the congressional hearing.

Cohen has testified behind close doors to both the Senate and the House previously, some of which led to his conviction on lying to Congress.

The oversight hearing may not be Cohen's only appearance.

"Mr Cohen has expressed an interest in telling his personal story in open session, and we welcome his testimony before the Committee on Oversight and Reform", he said.

The House Oversight and Reform Committee announced Thursday that Cohen will appear before the panel February 7. Trey Gowdy, declined to call Cohen, saying it was the job of special counsel Robert Mueller - not Congress - to investigate potential crime.

Schiff wants to restart parts of that probe. Cummings has asked for that information to be returned by January 22.
