Winter Storm Gia forecast: Monster snowstorm to span half the US

The advisories are in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Winter weather advisories have been issued for Davidson, Randolph, Stanly, Chatham, Rowan and Montgomery counties. We will have a little more sunshine on Sunday, but again, temperatures don't warm out of the upper 30s.

As of 2:25 p.m. Saturday, temperatures registered at 30 degrees ad freezing fog was reported in some areas.

While the storm is expected to travel east by Sunday, most cities along the East Coast won't face almost as rough conditions as the Midwest. Conditions in eastern Missouri were expected to be worse, with 8 to 12 inches of snow possible in the St. Louis area, according to the National Weather Service. The mountains could pick up a few snow showers.
