Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren has made her bid for the U.S. presidency official, during a 44-minute speech in sub-zero temperatures. The 69-year-old from the USA state of MA has already become a main target of Trump, who has dubbed Warren "Pocahontas" for previously identifying herself as a Native American, a controversy that has plagued the run-up to her candidacy.
"The American people will reject her dishonest campaign and socialist ideas like the Green New Deal, that will raise taxes, kill jobs and crush America's middle-class", Mr Trump's campaign manager Brad Pascale wrote. "I was a Republican because I thought that those were the people who best supported markets", she said.
He also accused her of "impersonating and disrespecting" Native Americans "to advance her professional career", referring to a DNA test she took to prove her Cherokee ancestry.
There were some in Ms Warren's campaign kick-off crowd who expressed concern that her struggles to explain her past claims of Native American heritage could make her vulnerable to attack.
The report, which marked the first instance yet of Warren making the assertion in her own handwriting, prompted new apologies from the senator.

"I am sorry that I extended confusion about tribal citizenship and tribal sovereignty and for harm caused I am also sorry for not being more mindful of this decades ago tribes and only tribes determine tribal citizenship", Warren told reporters.
Warren joins a growing list of Democrats kicking off their White House bid, including fellow Senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker.
"In our country if you work hard and play by the rules, you ought to be able to take care of yourself and the people you love".
Her platform includes a tax on the richest 75,000 Americans. She believes "working families today face a lot tougher path than my family did".
Born and raised in Oklahoma, the 69-year-old is a graduate of the University of Houston and Rutgers Law School. Warren's platform will focus on numerous same issues she's worked on since she was a Harvard Law School professor who helped President Barack Obama create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau after the 2008 recession: cracking down on big banks, making corporations more accountable to workers, and expanding health care and housing for the middle class and low-income Americans.
