Giving Michelle the ultimate reality check after her Grammys debut, Marian brought her daughter back down to earth in a series of text messages.

Michelle shared screenshots of her conversation with her mother, Marian Shields Robinson, on Instagram and wrote: "When your mom doesn't think you're a "real" celebrity..."

And although the music industry treated her like a rock star, Marian Robinson wasn't so impressed.

Texting the laughing-crying emoji, Michelle reminded her mother of her A-lister status, writing: 'I thought I told you.

"I guess you were a hit at the Grammys", her mom wrote.

Obama asked her mom if she watched it and Robinson replied: "I saw it because Gracie called me".

Although Robinson maintained she wasn't aware about Michelle going to the show, many found the former First Lady's situation very relatable.

While making an appearance at the 61st annual Grammy Awards, Mrs Obama said in a speech: "From the Motown records I wore out on the south side to the Who Run The World songs that fuelled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story".

Obama appeared on stage with Jada Pinkett Smith, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez to talk about the impact music had had on her life. "I would have remembered that..." "#TextsFromMom", the former first lady captioned the screenshot.
